Privacy & GPX Data
Summitryx™ is an independently operated, educational mountain visualization project. You can browse mountain models without registering or submitting a track. This notice describes the current website, our email-only route-contribution process and the limits of our privacy safeguards.
Effective October 27, 2026 · Version 1.1 · Applies to the current 3D explorer, illustrated definitions and email route contributions
1. Account-free access and local preferences
Summitryx currently has no public user accounts, subscriptions, or requirement to provide a name or email address to explore the 3D mountains. We do not request your device's GPS location for ordinary browsing.
Library search and filters operate in your browser. If you save mountains with the star control, your selections are kept in your own browser's localStorage and are not sent to a Summitryx user-account database. You can clear them through your browser's site-data controls. Clearing browser data may remove your saved list.
The separate password-protected development preview uses an essential signed session cookie to maintain access. That preview cookie is not a public account, and it is not used for advertising.
2. Technical information from website visits
Cloudflare hosts or delivers the website. As with other hosted websites, Cloudflare and related infrastructure may process IP addresses, request details, browser and device information, security signals and diagnostic logs to deliver pages, prevent abuse, troubleshoot failures and operate the service. The site does not currently include a custom advertising pixel or a first-party behavioral analytics script; this does not mean infrastructure processes no data.
When you open a 3D explorer, your browser loads the Plotly visualization library from Plotly's CDN and requests mountain-specific modeled weather from Open-Meteo. The weather request concerns the mountain's displayed coordinates, not your device location. Photo thumbnails may be fetched directly from Wikimedia servers. Those providers may receive your IP address and technical request information under their own privacy practices. Following external links also takes you to independently operated sites.
We do not presently sell or rent visitor data, use personalized advertising or provide a marketing mailing list. If new analytics, advertising or data services are introduced, this notice must be reviewed and updated before activation.
3. Information you choose to email us
Separate email purposes: routes@summitryx.com is for general website questions, feedback and safety corrections. gpxreview@summitryx.com is a separate destination for GPX route inquiries, file submissions after our initial review, and GPX-specific removal or access requests. The two addresses may be served by separate email providers. Do not send raw GPX files to the general mailbox.
When you email either address, the receiving inbox obtains the sender's email address, message and anything voluntarily included. Your email provider, any forwarding service and the destination inbox provider may process and retain copies of that correspondence. Email is not guaranteed to be private or end-to-end encrypted.
Route submissions may contain latitude and longitude coordinates, elevations, times, route names, waypoints, notes, names, email addresses, creator or device identifiers, photos or extensions such as speed or heart-rate observations. We cannot assume that a file is anonymous because a contributor removed their name.
Please do not send someone else's private track, a minor's movement data, medical or fitness measurements, sensitive home or hotel endpoints, private campsite coordinates or restricted/protected-area details unless you have a justified, lawful basis and we have first agreed on a safe submission method.
4. How route contributions are used
We use submitted correspondence and route data to respond to the contributor, establish provenance and the right to share the data, evaluate the file for educational visualization, identify potential safety and privacy problems, request corrections and—only after separate documented approval—prepare a minimized, source-qualified public route. We do not use a GPX submission to follow or monitor the contributor.
Sending a GPX file does not transfer ownership, give Summitryx a general publishing license, authorize commercial use or permit us to redistribute the original file. If a particular route may be included, we will identify what geometry, information and attribution would appear and ask the authorized contributor to approve that specific use in writing.
5. Review before any publication
Raw submissions and contributor email addresses are private by default. We do not intentionally publish raw GPX files, unreviewed coordinates, correspondence, names or device metadata to the public website, a public code repository or public downloads.
Before a public derivative is prepared, we aim to strip unnecessary metadata and timestamps, inspect and remove sensitive start/end areas and private waypoints, consider whether even the remaining route can identify people or disclose protected locations, and confirm attribution preferences. Deleting names alone does not anonymize an exact GPS trace. Contributors can request no public attribution, but a route's geometry may still be recognizable.
Public display and onward distribution require an independent written permission decision. Routes are research material, not certified for navigation; see our Safety & Responsible Use notice.
6. Access, retention and deletion
GPX inquiries and accepted file attachments are handled through the dedicated gpxreview@summitryx.com receiving mailbox, not a public GPX database. General correspondence goes to the separate routes@summitryx.com address. Access should be restricted to those who need the relevant messages; do not send raw GPX to the general inbox. We do not use a website upload endpoint or automatically make emailed attachments public. Email services, forwarding services and backups can retain copies under their own policies.
Our operating target is to delete unsolicited, declined or unapproved GPX attachments within 90 days of receipt, and to delete working raw originals within 90 days after an approved public derivative is prepared, unless additional retention has been specifically agreed with the contributor or a documented legal issue requires it. These are manually administered review targets, not an automated deletion feature. Necessary permission records, correspondence about disputes and approved public derivatives may be kept longer as appropriate.
We cannot guarantee that an email, cached public page or a copy saved by another person can be recalled everywhere after publication. We will consider correction and removal requests promptly and take reasonable steps within our control.
7. Your choices and privacy requests
You do not need an account to ask about a contribution, withdraw a pending submission, request correction, request access to material you provided or ask us to remove a public derivative. For GPX files, route attribution or route-data deletion, email gpxreview@summitryx.com with the mountain and enough context to locate the submission. For general privacy questions, use routes@summitryx.com. Please do not send additional sensitive coordinates merely to identify your request.
We may need to confirm you control the original submission or have authority to request its removal. We will address requests in accordance with applicable laws; some records may need to be retained for security, legal or dispute-resolution reasons.
8. Children and other people's tracks
Anyone may read the educational material, but we only invite GPX submissions from adults age 18 or older. Do not submit GPS location histories identifying a child or another person without the necessary authority and permission. If we learn we received a child's personal location information without a valid basis, we will stop review and take steps to delete it.
9. Security, updates and contact
We seek to limit unnecessary collection, restrict access and review route material before any publication. However, email, hosting providers and internet services are not risk-free, and no security method guarantees absolute protection. Privacy obligations vary by jurisdiction, including rights relating to sensitive geolocation data.
This notice describes the features and providers identified in the current build. New features, automated uploads, accounts, monetization or a change in route handling would require a new privacy review and updated notice.
