Arnold Awerzger and Erwin Schneider climbed the northwest/north-ridge line during July 1936.
Joe Simpson and Simon Yates completed the first west-face ascent in June 1985, using two snow-hole bivouacs at about 5,500 m and 6,200 m. They then descended the dangerously corniced north ridge. Simpson's injuries, Yates's rescue attempt and Simpson's return to camp are documented in their original expedition report.
Carlos Buhler and Mark Price climbed the original route's lower section, then diverged into an upper direct gully. All route lines and incident markers on this explorer are historical visualizations, not precise expedition GPS or climbing instructions.
